My name is Arlene Paxton. When I was a little girl growing up in Southern Michigan, my grandmother, who lived in Phoenix, would always send me copies of Arizona Highways magazines. I would sit for hours while looking at the pictures of beautiful sunsets, glorious mountains and desert scenes, and I would daydream of just what it would be like to live out West. I was definitely in love with the West. My memories are still very vivid of our annual visits, where she would take us to visit the Pueblos to buy pottery, rugs and jewelry, and even do our own mining for Apache Tears. Even though I now live in Southwest Florida, I am a regular visitor to Santa Fe, and the contemporary jewelry that I am inspired to create keeps the Southwest very close to my heart in each piece by the usage of the stones I select.
